My friend, Andrea, recently threw a baby shower for her sister and used a unique activity to help fill the time: onsie painting. She bought a few packages of plain white onsies and supplied fabric pens and stencils. All of the onsies got painted and everyone had a great time.

Fabric pens and stencils to paint the onsies.

It helps they know the name of the baby.
Here’s my favorite … the diaper cake. I first heard of diaper cakes from Sex and the City. These things are expensive if you buy them pre-made, but Andrea shows one here that you can do it yourself and have it look great!

There are a ton of ways to organize and decorate a diaper cake, but this shows the beauty in the simplicity of flowers and elegant ribbon. Next time you have to host a baby shower, think of something unexpected. Below are some sites that might help in your planning.

“Mountains!”
Yes, son, they are mountains. The good news is that they aren’t plateaus, but I’d rather have more peaks than valleys.

It gets hard to give things away that come from family members, especially those who have passed away. Or items that have been passed down, sometimes through several generations. Many times, however, this can be a burden to the person you are giving the item to. There is a lot of guilt associated with being the person to now own and have to keep and protect the “family heirloom.”
Think about a recent college graduate who just got his first apartment. His parents unload some of his “possessions” they have been saving for him. Does he even want them anymore? Are they his style? But, will he take them and keep them because his parents have been “saving” them for him all these years?
Families need to think about this as they keep things for their kids. Unless your children express an interest in the item, I wouldn’t save it for them.

I have a love/hate relationship with the ever-popular bunny book, “Guess How Much I Love You?”
The first time I read it, I have no clue what I am in for. I am thinking it’s just some cute book about bunnies. I have no idea the tear-inducing effect it will have on me or how it will close up my throat as if I am having an allergic reaction. Hand over the Benadryl, please.
But, read it I must.
Tear up I do.
Swallow hard.
Enjoy every minute of the it.
He’ll never know how much I really do love him.

An attractive man with a sexy English accent tells me where to turn on my way to the location of my choice; a romantic restaurant for dinner, drinks and dessert. I’m in love. *sigh*
My new love interest isn’t a man, however: It’s the TomTom GPS device.
My sister-in-law let me try out her TomTom while she was in town visiting us. I’m amazed at how easy it is to get around with one of these devices in your car. I can see how handy it might be in a part of town that you’re not familiar with, or going somewhere for the first time.
It will be especially helpful on a long car trip — vacations and business trips. You can find the nearest gas station, restaurant, shops, etc. Just type in what you are looking for and the device will find it for you and tell you how to get there.
A friend of mine has the Garmin version and she loves it too. She recently told me of a time when she was in an unfavorable part of town at night, with her young daughter. There was construction going on in town with several closed streets. But, with her GPS device, she didn’t have to worry about finding her way. She keyed in her information and the device showed her a way home — to safety.
I think that every woman should have one of these in her arsenal of tools. I plan to get one as soon as the sweet-talking Englishman tells me which way to the electronics store.
