How Are You Doing Today? I’m FABULOUS!

Somewhere around my pre-teen years my mother was hosting a dinner party at our house. One of her male friends asked me how I was doing. This guy was always telling jokes, always had a smile on his face, he was full of life. I must have responded with something like, “good,” or “OK.” When I gave my mediocre response, he said, “You should say you are FABULOUS,” and he made me say it out loud.

It really made me think about how I think about myself and my life — It’s something that has always stuck with me.

This past Sunday the pastor at my church started his sermon talking about how everything is super these days: Super Delegates, Super Target, Superman (although he defended Superman). “What about fabulous?” he asked the congregation.

Once home, my husband and I kept using “fabulous” throughout the day. “Dinner is fabulous, honey.” “You look fabulous in that shirt!” It was a great exercise and made us realize how many good things are going on in our lives.

I know we’re not always “fabulous,” but when we are we should be grateful and say it out loud. You’ll be surprised how it will make you feel.

What a great affirmation! I love it, and will try to do this practice. Kinda reminds me of an exchange I had with a security guard at the Austin airport:

ME: Hello.
HIM: Hi there.
ME: How are you doing today?
HIM: I’m choosing to be well.

I love that, because it is a choice.

That’s great Ashley! I love it. I should have included how Kelly always says “fantastic!” Few people use great descriptors like that, and I always note it when they do.

My best friend’s voicemail message always ends in: “Have a fabulous day!” I’m always smiling by the time I’m leaving her a message.
