Race Car Chocolate Pretzel Party Favors

by Alicia at BalancingMotherhood.com on January 14, 2009

I wanted to do something other than the typical grab bag for my son’s friends — to thank them for coming to his birthday party. I decided to try to make my own chocolate favors on pretzel rods. Part sweet/part healthy was the theme I was going for — along with a one item favor. I was trying for simplicity. How To Make A Chocolate Pretzel Party Favor

I bought a chocolate mold from the local craft store. It was only $2 and makes six, car-shaped snacks at a time. Buy a bag of candy melts from the craft store — I purchased one bag of blue-colored, vanilla-flavored “candy melts.”

Put candy melts in sandwich sized ziplock bag and place in microwave for 30 seconds. You might try 10 seconds at a time. Don’t over-microwave the candies. They should look soft, but not completely melted. Take the bag out and mash with your hands to completely melt the chocolates together.

Twist top of baggie to form a cone. Snip a SMALL hole at the tip. Squeeze chocolate into the candy mold. It doesn’t have to look smooth or pretty at this point. Fill about half way.

Place pretzel rods in mold, on top of chocolate.

Squeeze more chocolate on top of the pretzel rod, until it reaches the edge of the mold. Shake the mold, tapping it on the table to settle the chocolate. It will smooth out. Place in fridge for a few minutes until the chocolate sets up.

Remove the pretzels from the mold. Place a small, clear candy bag over the top part of the pretzel and tie with a twist tie.

A close up of the finished product. These items were devoured by the pre-school party set!

I will definitely do this again.

These are so adorable! My son’s 2nd birthday is 10 days away, and since we are going with a car theme, I am going to try these out! Which craft store did you buy the mold at?
