Transitioning Back to Work

by Alicia at BalancingMotherhood.com on May 25, 2009

Today marks the last day of my maternity leave; I head back to the office tomorrow morning. It’s been great to have the ability to take 12 weeks off so that I can learn how to be a mother to two, instead of one. Staying at home is hard work. There are no breaks. There are few naps. It’s a tiring and pretty thankless job, but one that I’ve really enjoyed.

Thankfully, I really like the job to which I am returning. I have people that I like working with in a very welcoming and creative environment. I’m sure tomorrow will go just fine. And, it’s not like I haven’t returned from maternity leave once before. Everything will fall into place. It’s just another of life’s transitions. A season of change.

Wish me luck.

Good luck! I have been back to work for 3 weeks now. As much as I enjoy having some semblance of my old life back, I wish I had more time with my little boy! Not to mention the glamour of pumping in the bathroom on a closed toilet… :)

Thank you, Alicia. I’m grateful for all you have done for Our child since she came into our lives. You are a great mother, and a wonderful wife. I love you.

@Sara … thanks for the note. You shouldn’t have to pump in the bathroom! There are laws that say companies must provide a private space with a door, that is not a bathroom. Please look into the laws in your state to see what applies. I know pumping is a lot of work and I’d hate to see you struggle with it just because of a bad location. I do applaud you for doing whatever it takes to continue to provide milk for your little one :)

Hope the first week went well! I, too, love my job but it’s still a loss going back. And certainly a transition!
