Struggling with the Juggling

As a mother of two young children, I often find myself juggling work and home life. I have two full-time jobs: one that pays me and one that doesn’t. Oftentimes, these two worlds collide as I try to juggle everything.

Take yesterday for instance. I was told that I would need to be available to an all day meeting the next day. This meant that I had to reschedule a doctor’s appointment I had for my son. I didn’t want to do this, but felt I needed to in order to be available for the meeting — my husband wasn’t available for the doctor appointment. So, I reschedule for two weeks later.

I have guilt about rescheduling the appointment.

Then, at the end of the day yesterday I was told I wasn’t needed for any of the all-day meeting. UGH. So, now I scramble to see if I can get my doctor appointment back. I call, but no, the time was already given away.

Working parents face these types of struggles every day. Some have it worse than others. It all depends on our home situation (level of spousal support, level of need of our children, flexibility of our workplace.) It’s a struggle no matter how you look at it and we’re just doing the best we can.
