Can You Really Find Balance?

Sometimes I wonder if this balance thing is really obtainable. I keep adding more to my to do list and find myself looking for windows of time to get something done. There are never enough windows of time to get it all done, so I’ve come up with three things that can help when you feel really overwhelmed.

1. Stop and think

What is MOST important to you at this time? What is the absolute priority? Maybe the laundry can wait one more day, but driving to the grocery store to get dog food can’t.

2. Make time for you

Everyone always says, be sure to leave time for you. HA! That seems like such a joke sometimes. I barely have time for my family, let alone carving out time for me, but this is what I’ve done — I have started going to lunch, alone. I used to go out with coworkers or meet a friend, but these days I have too much to do and need that lunch time to do some work. It’s not exactly me time, but it’s time that helps me later on.

3. Ask for help

Sometimes you just can’t do it all. Look at the areas of your life where you can ask for help. Do you need to ask a friend or neighbor to watch the kids for you so that you can get to a meeting, or get something done around the house? Maybe you need them to watch the kids so you can take a nap and regroup. If you never ask, the answer will always be, “no.”

I completely agree with you! You need “me time” in order to find balance. I wrote a blog about this topic, too: http://www.sarahkoszyk.com/wordpress/?p=23
The “asking for help” idea is great. I still forget about that one. Thanks for posting!

That is great advice that is, sometimes, very hard to rationalize. With so much to do all of the time, it can seem impossible to prioritize and stress yourself out. It’s ok to let laundry sit undone if you need to take an afternoon to relax once in a while.
