Here’s the 10th installment of the Blog & Traffic Report. Think of it as a Cliffs Notes for blogging. Be sure to sign up for the Blogging, Business + Balance newsletter where I share new blog tips and industry information every week.
I write these as a way to collect information that I’m learning and I’ve decided that it’s too good not to share! So, you get the benefit of everything I find in a month … all right here. Plus, I share things that worked on my site.
I thought I’d hit 10,000 followers on Pinterest this month, but that didn’t happen. I’m SOOOO close though. So close!
I broke down and finally bought Tailwind. If you’re not familiar with Tailwind, it’s a social media scheduling tool just for Pinterest.
I got it on sale during Black Friday weekend. My plan is it use it to schedule pins and join Tribes to get more content. Tribes are an amazing way to share content with a group of people — all in the app so you don’t have to go through those pesky Facebook share groups. All you do it join a Tribe that has the type of content you want to share and you agree to share some of the content. Each tribe has its own set of “rules” so be sure you monitor and follow the rules for each tribe. You can add your content to the tribes in the hopes that others will share your content on Pinterest.
Although I signed up for Tailwind, I’m not giving up my beloved Board Booster. I’ll use board booster to loop my pins and do some scheduling until I figure out how to best maximize Tailwind.
SOCIAL MEDIA SCHEDULING
Used Meet Edgar a lot during the holidays to schedule holiday content on Facebook. Meet Edgar allows you to create content categories (I think of them as buckets) where you put your evergreen content. Then, you schedule that bucket and Meet Edgar will put one post from that category on social media for you. The next time that category is up on the schedule, Meet Edgar will pick the next piece of content from that bucket and schedule it. It took awhile to set it up, but it worked great. I’m still unsure of the ROI since Meet Edgar is $50 a month (now it costs $80/month) so I have to continue to evaluate it.
I’m going to try Post Planner in the new year.
I promoted my Christmas printable this month to get more email subscribers. It worked, but I should have started promoting it earlier.
I created a video using photos for my Christmas bundt cake and it’s received over 200 views – a good number for a simple food video on my site. I think it’s due in part to the fact that pin/post are doing well this month. I created the video on an app on my iPad and posted it to my You Tube channel, then embedded it into the blog post about the Christmas bundt cake. This is good for two reasons:
- Search likes video on blog posts
- You Tube is the second most used search engine
Having videos in both places just makes sense.
I made $54.00 from Amazon affiliate this month. My second highest month (August I had $75 because of back to school topics).
I’m not actively participating in other affiliate programs until my traffic is much higher and I can determine the right strategy.
Nothing new to report.
Traffic is up 26% this month from November. Thank goodness. After two months of negative gain it’s good to see the month to month increase again. Traffic is up 124% from last December. I keep saying it, and I’ll say it again. As long as I’m seeing increase year over year like this I’ll keep working hard.
INVESTMENT IN BLOG
Took out a Facebook ad. This is common at this point. I still don’t have a solid strategy, but I’m using the Facebook ads to grow my Facebook page through interest targeting..
Bought Elite Blog Academy. OK, so I finally broke down and invested in Elite Blog Academy. I can’t stand the testimonials and want that to be me! I love Ruth’s other projects (her productivity course is great and I’m using her planner this year too.) I bought the course for $498 because the price is going up next year. I used a coupon that I got from Ruth during the Ultimate Blogger Guide which saved me $97, and I bought EBA through Simple Pin Media which gave me free access to her Pinterest Master Course. SO, I’m all coursed up. Now I just need to get to work!!!
