“Good Morning America’s” workplace contributor Tory Johnson is also CEO of Women for Hire, a network for women. Over the last couple of years I’ve seen Women for Hire expand, its Web site improve and now it even offers a free magazine.
Tory is chock full of advice for all types of working women: moms, older women, work from home moms, moms who’ve been out of the biz for a while … you name it. Tory has advice for every situation. She’s been there too …
From her Web site:
Women For Hire founded in a small corner of CEO Tory Johnson’s New York City apartment, where she’d spend her days (and nights) researching and cold-calling employers—with toddler twins in tow—to convince them to participate in her career expo.”
I got my first issue of the magazine this week and it’s pretty good. I learned that WFH has a facebook group that I can join and it’s full of stories about women who’ve figured things out when it comes to their jobs.
Check out the Web site, womenforhire.com and see for yourself.

Would be called ex-husband in my house.
Seriously, this is a phrase that someone (I assume a wife) actually typed into Google and found her way to my blog. All I can say is that I seriously hope that her husband gets a grip and learns to deal with the crying. Let me tell you now, seriously, the crying doesn’t stop once they aren’t a baby anymore.
Seriously.
The crying gets worse as they get older.
Seriously.
It gets worse and is like fingernails on a chalkboard some days.
Seriously.
Tell your husband he’s gotta get used to it. He’s got to find a way to deal with the crying. To deal with the noise a baby makes.
Seriously.
It’s the way babies communicate. If he can’t handle it now with a baby, he’s going to have a really hard time dealing with a toddler whining and crying because daddy won’t let him eat a cookie for breakfast.
It’s hard.
It’s tough.
It’s just the beginning — and I mean that — seriously.

The mom blog site, 5 Minutes for Mom, is having a blog party and I’m joining in. It’s a networking party that I can share my goals about helping women with more moms. After all, that is why I blog.
Since it’s a party, we’ll need cake. You can read my post about my trials of baking a specialty cake for my son’s birthday — I struggled with making it, blue icing wedged deep under my fingernails, staining my fingertips. After it was over, I was soooo glad I did and have a picture to prove it! It’s a super cute car-shaped cake that took waaay too long to make, and was devoured waaaay to fast, but was totally worth all the effort.
So, as you can tell by now, I’m a mom and I have a son. I also work full-time and believe in balancing work, life and family. Although, you don’t have to be employed to need to find balance in your life. It’s not easy for any of us to do, but I use this blog to help me keep balance in the forefront of my life. In doing it in blog form, I am able to help other women realize they aren’t alone in their quest to get things done, and have fun doing it too. I post every week day so be sure to stop here often. Read more about me here.
And, since this is a party, I should send a shout out to all the Internet peeps who regularly come here to read my posts. *shout* THANK YOU *shout* WOOT! I really appreciate your support and hope that you get as much out of it as I do each day.

“The Orlando Sentinel” published a great article in Sunday’s edition about things women can do to stay safe. Here are some of the ideas reporter Amy L. Edwards shares that I think are unique:
Shopping:
If your child is with you, load your groceries first so if someone wants your car, your child is not in it.
In the elevator:
When the doors open, see who is inside before you step in. If you see someone who makes your (sic) uncomfortable, wait for the next elevator.
In parking lots:
Rethink using auto-locking remote devices that unlock all four doors at once.In the car:Wen you arrive at your destination, look at th earea before you get out of the car — even if it’s your house.”

Can you believe it’s here already? You either love February 14 or hate it. I really don’t think there’s much of an in between.
However you feel about Valentine’s Day, I’m sure we’d agree that it comes with pressure. When you’re single, it’s the pressure to have a date on or around the 14th. When you’re a couple it’s the pressure of a gift, the card (funny or serious?), and what to do today (dinner out or dinner in?). It’s enough to drive you crazy.
If you want to guarantee a great Valentine’s Day, however, you have to do something for yourself. The one thing I don’t like about Valentine’s day (besides the pressure) is the fact that we are waiting for someone to do something for us. Don’t wait, do something you love today. Something for you. Get a pedicure on your lunch break. Buy yourself one long stem red rose and display it in a place of honor. Buy a new piece of art for your bedroom or sacred space, something that will remind you to always be who you are on the inside. Order that magazine subscription that you’ve been eyeing, and enjoy the benefits for an entire year.
Above all, remember Valentine’s Day is about love. Loving yourself. Loving your spouse or partner. Loving your children. Loving others. It’s a day to be reminded of who we care about, which should always start with ourselves.
