Homemade Pickles In Just 24 Hours

Earlier this summer I said that I wanted to make homemade pickles. It started with a question from my 5-year-old son, “Mommy, how are pickles made?” I explained how they start as cucumbers, but quickly determined that the best way to teach this lesson was to actually make pickles. I wanted to do it as a summer project when he didn’t have the responsibilities of schoolwork. Although I procrastinated, I finally found a recipe that makes delicious pickles in just 24-hours.

Look at these delicious pickles! Why did I wait so long?

It’s really a simple recipe that starts with slicing small cucumbers into pickle pieces, then soaking them in salt. Next you add the marinating liquid that includes vinegar and brown sugar. Set it in the fridge for 24 hours and you have delicious pickles.

After we made the pickles my son said, “Mommy, do you know why these are the best pickles we’ve ever had?”

“Why?” I ask.

“Because they are homemade.”

Here’s the original recipe from Recipegirl.com that we used for these delicious and easy pickles. She’s got great pics of the process. Try them at home and you won’t be disappointed.
